Clay Steele Mote, born on July 23, 1998, left this world too soon on January 13, 2026. He was a cherished individual whose warmth and joy filled the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Clayburn's ability to connect with others was unparalleled; he never met a stranger, earning a reputation as a vibrant presence in any room.

Clay was passionate about fishing, often finding peace and relaxation by the water. His love for video games provided countless hours of enjoyment, and he was an ardent fan of the NFL, proudly supporting his favorite team, the Minnesota Vikings. He derived immense joy from spending time with his beloved pets, Teddy, Fasa, Bear, and Og, who were a significant part of his life.

He is survived by his fiancé, Aleecia McCumbers, as well as his mother, Robin Mote Austin, and his father, Dwayne Carter and his wife Joyce. He was a devoted brother to Cody Austin, Bobby Sessoms, Douglas Sessoms, Chloe Campbell, Melynda Storms, and Alina Smith. Clayburn also leaves behind two uncles, Jacob Mote and Jonathan Carter, whose memories of him will forever be cherished.

His circle of friends included lifelong companion Jordan Hicks and special friends Josh Weaver, Jhiem Weaver, Josh Bronson, Jaylen Wilson, and Katillia West, all of whom shared countless adventures and cherished memories with him.

The family will receive friends on Monday evening, January 19, 2026 from the hours of 5:00PM until 7:00PM at the Bladenboro Funeral Chapel.

Clay spirit will continue to resonate within the hearts of those who loved him, reminding us all of the joy he brought into our lives. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
