Mrs. Constance (Connie) Jordan, age 79, passed away in peace while at home and in the company of her husband and many of her family. She was the eldest of two children and born in Vernal, Utah on May 4, 1946. She grew up in Sinclair, Wyoming before moving on her own to take a job with the FBI in Washington, D.C. as a Fingerprint Clerk in 1964. She and her husband, Robert (Bob) met on Valentines Day in 1965 and the two were married in August of that same year.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harold and Jean Wood of Sinclair, Wyoming and her youngest daughter, Joanna Abascal. Her survivors are Rev. Robert E. Jordan of Lumberton, NC; Daughters, Janet Walters (Brad) of Hampton, Va., Jean Shelor (Alan) of Roanoke, Va.; Sister, Judy Paul (Steven) of Rawlins, Wyoming & Mesquite, Nevada. She has eight grandchildren; Corin Hogge, Jordan Hogge, Tristin Hogge, Hayley McCoy, Jarod McCoy, David McCoy, Hannah Shelor and Ella Shelor; and two great grandchildren: Oliver Hogge and Cameron Hogge.
As a young girl, Connie, felt a desire to be a missionary to the American Indians of the West for the Presbyterian Church. This was never a reality for her but when Bob surrendered to the gospel ministry, she felt that being a pastor’s wife would fulfill her own personal call to ministry. She was a wonderful pastor’s wife for their sixty years of marriage. She was the welcoming, listening ear to one and all and seemed to be a magnet to those who were unappreciated and disenfranchised by general society. She never knew a stranger and loved to hear everyone’s life story. She enjoyed working outside of the home but that was ended with some of her health concerns.
A memorial time of remembrance will be held on December 7th at 3:00 pm in Zion’s Tabernacle Baptist Church, 3496 Tar Heel Road, Lumberton, NC. Her inurnment at Western Prong Baptist Church will be private for family at a future time. She asked that in lieu of flowers that a gift towards missions be given at your local church.
