Walter Earl Farmer, Jr.'s Obituary

Walter “Earl” Farmer Jr. of Gaston, SC took the checkered flag into heaven to be with his Lord & Savior on April 5, 2026 in Delco, NC surrounded by his family.

Earl was born in Whiteville, North Carolina on November 6, 1966. He graduated from Acme-Delco High School in 1985 and remained deeply connected to his classmates, cherishing those friendships throughout his life.

He proudly served his country as a United States Army veteran during Operation Desert Storm. Following his military service, Earl spent many years as a dedicated truck driver, where he was affectionately known by fellow drivers as “Cowboy.”

Earl also gave back to his community through 13 years of service with the Acme-Delco-Riegelwood Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. In his younger years, he found great joy in playing and coaching softball alongside his father, creating memories he held close to his heart.

In his free time, you could often find Earl at his local racetrack on Saturday nights, doing what he loved most—racing. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and spending time camping, embracing the outdoors whenever he could.

Earl is survived by his loving wife, Renee Farmer; his children, Meghan Brew (Pete), Austin Thigpen (Shaina), Mackenzie Farmer, Seth Farmer, Cody Benfield (Morgan), and Amber Benfield; and his cherished grandchildren, Aleeah, Gentry, Brayden, Carson, Liam, Kendall, and Harlee.

He is also survived by his beloved “furbabies,” Cooper, Sadie Bear, Willow, Olivia, Dixie, and Rosco.

Earl leaves behind his siblings, Renee Mote (Tony), Scott Farmer (Tracie), and Charlene Farmer; his in-laws, Tom and Arlene Nebel; as well as many special nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Earl was preceded in death by his father, Buster Farmer; his mother, Muriel Sandlin; his stepfather, Jackie Sandlin; and his grandmother, Ruby Farmer.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all who have offered prayers, love, and support during this time, as well as to Amedisys Hospice Services for their compassionate care.
